The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the tally five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender fulfils role at each end of the field

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a only attempts on goal, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in the team's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: The London club travel to St James' Park on late October for their next round Carabao Cup match against Newcastle.
